BUILDING OUR HOME

Building our Country Home

In 2002 we began a new adventure when we purchased a small home on 5 acres in the Southern California Countryside... I was a bad photo journalist back then (not much has changed!) but I've managed to scrape together enough pictures to give you an idea of what Fuuuuun
we had building our own home!

MAN DOES NOT BUILD BY MAN ALONE!

March 5, 2026

It takes a village and your whole family to build a home.

I'm so sick of all this work I think I'm just gonna jump!

No, no!  Don't jump!  Life's not that bad!  Besides, I don't think it's high enough, you'll just break an ankle.

Whatever.  Aargh!  Back to work again.  I shoulda just jumped!

Yeah, I just tried jumping.  It didn't work, I'm still here.

Okay, enough of that ridiculousness!...

Here we have Animal (slave-driving father) and Josh (oldest son) watching the over-worked, under-nourished, unpaid, exhausted, youngest sons... maneuvering a massive beam into the lower level to be put in place so that it will carry the weight of the rest of the house.  (That's kinda scary)

And here we have two burley men helping each other stand a few small sticks of lumber on the newly sheeted floor to the 2nd story of Animal's country castle.

Despite what this may look like, this is not Queen Annabelle making sure the massive wall is water-proofed.  It's her twin, Jezabelle, the peasant who lives in the valley below who came to lend a hand.

I'm outa here!  Red Lobster is calling!  Anybody want anything?

Naa, I think we'll just roast a pig.  Just teasin!  We would never!

Chuckles used to come visit the job-site when he was a little younger and in better shape.

 Delivery Day!

Maneuvering a 55 foot long semi around the hair-pin turn at the top of our hill was fun!

Why don't you three over there on the left unload that truck while us three here on the right figure
out what needs to be done next.

Oh yeah, a little break dancing to loosen us up so we don't throw our tender backs out or
pull a muscle or somethin'!

Nice.  Nice Jeremiah, thank you.  This is your mother here, taking all these pictures.  Do you know how hard it is to take all these pictures?  And that's the thanks I get.  No respect.  Now put that finger down and get your boney ass back to work!

Is this another day, or did Jeremy actually have a costume change?  Hmmm, yes I think
he actually had a costume change!

Wow, it almost looks like they're actually getting some work done here!

Ahh, the end of another long, hard day!

Here we have King Animal with his Queen and royal dogs Olive and Raif in front of the pile that would be their new home!

Okay everybody!  Let's get started!  Don't be sittin' down or anything cuz we gotta a lot to do!

I AM MAN! TODAY I BUILD!

January 18, 2026

Building your own Home is soooo Glamorous!

Not right now please...I am Man and I am Building My Wall.

And because I am doing it all myself and I plan to have it finished by sundown, I don't have time for interruptions for silly things like photo ops!

The intense workload, enormous concentration and Manly Labor is almost over whelming!

Why does Dad keep acting like we aren't even here?

He just keeps mumbling to himself and we're the ones doing all the...

I NEED MY OWN BATHROOM...EVEN IF I GOTTA BUILD IT MYSELF!

January 18, 2026

I keep promising myself and those of you who have any interest in our craziness that I would post the pictures we had of our 'House Building Antics'!  At that time I didn't even know what a 'Blog' was, or, as a matter of fact, if they even existed back in 2005!  I'm sure we would've attempted to take better pictures for your viewing pleasure had we known our future held this marvelous blogging adventure! So, I will apologize again for th...
